In this concert programme, violinist Daniils Bulajevs and pianist Agnese Egliņa have combined works imbued with classical elegance and virtuoso energy, whose authors’ lives were closely linked to the enchanting atmosphere of Vienna throughout different periods.
Alongside Franz Schubert’s bright lyricism and Violin Sonata No. 1, imbued with Mozartian elegance, is the same great Romantic songwriter’s expressive sparkle embodied in Rondo Brillant, and alongside Fritz Kreisler’s charming Viennese dances – Johannes Brahms’ dazzling scherzo from the legendary F. A. E. Sonata. Meanwhile, the timeless Adagietto from Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 5, enveloped in pensive melancholy, resonates beautifully with the masterpieces of two representatives of the so-called New Viennese School – Anton Webern’s refined and meticulously polished Four Pieces for Violin and Piano, Op. 7, and Arnold Schoenberg’s sparklingly rhapsodic Phantasy.
