On the Way - Concert by the joint symphony orchestra of two music higschools

The concert program is designed as a significant journey through symphonic music of different eras and styles. It will feature Jānis Ivanovs' emotionally charged Concerto for Cello and Orchestra, in which delicate melodies alternate with dramatic tension, as well as Alexander Arutyunyan's vivid and virtuosic Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra, whose musical language is permeated with Eastern intonations and temperamental rhythms. The concert will culminate with Johannes Brahms' Fourth Symphony, one of the most intellectually and musically sophisticated symphonic works of the Romantic era.

For the first time in the history of both schools – Jāzeps Mediņš Riga Music School (JMRMV) and MIKC NMV Emīls Dārziņš Music School (EDMS) – students are forming a symphony orchestra with an expanded range of instruments. Two brilliant young musicians will participate in this ambitious project as soloists – cellist Toms Augusts Goba from the Emīls Dārziņš Music School and trumpeter Jānis Deniņš from the Jāzeps Mediņš Riga Music School. The combined orchestra will be conducted by Vilhelms Vācietis, artistic director of the JMRMV symphony orchestra.
