The contemporary music festival deciBels invites listeners to experience springtime vibes of European contemporary music with a diverse concert program. Artists from more than ten countries will participate in the festival, with a repertoire ranging from 20th-century academic music classics to funk and the latest experimental explorations in multimedia. Nine world premieres will be performed at the festival.
The festival will open in the Great Hall of the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA) with a performance by the extravagant musical duo SMASH.duo (Germany), which combines elements of classical, electronic, jazz and pop music in its concerts, striving to break boundaries and challenge ingrained stereotypes.
In this duo's performances, light, image, movement, and sound become equal elements in the creation of a unified artistic event, creating a memorable concert experience for the audience. The program will feature pieces from the duo's usual repertoire, as well as new works composed especially for SMASH.duo by two JVLMA students - Dāvis Krists Balodis and Dāvis Vilks.
