Pink Noise Riga festival. Intars Busulis Lush Life Quintet

Inspired by the centenary of jazz legend John Coltrane, the closing concert of the Pink Noise Riga Spring Edition is dedicated to one of instrumental music’s most enduring forms – the dialogue between tenor saxophone and voice. This musical conversation will bring together Intars Busulis and Gints Pabērzs, united in a lineup created especially for this occasion – “Intars Busulis Lush Life Quintet”.

Joined by pianist Matīss Žilinskis, double bassist Toms Poišs and drummer Rūdolfs Dankfelds, the quintet offers a broad perspective on the jazz and popular music canon. The program draws on the legacy of John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman, the bossa nova lyricism of Stan Getz and João Gilberto, as well as the musical dialogues of Paul Simon and Michael Brecker, Kurt Elling and Branford Marsalis, and Gregory Porter and Tivon Pennicott.

The name "Lush Life" is a deliberate reference to Billy Strayhorn’s iconic composition and to some of the most distinctive male vocal and tenor saxophone recordings of recent decades. A key source of inspiration is the legendary 1963 album John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman, still regarded as one of the most refined recordings in jazz history.
