The exhibition introduces the Liepaja Secondary School of Music, Art, and Design, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Liepaja Art School.
This year marks exactly one hundred years since the founding of the Liepaja Art School in 1926 and ten years since it merged with the Emilis Melngailis' Liepaja Secondary Music School. The school was the first educational institution in Latvia to offer a secondary education alongside a diploma in professional art.
Spanning the period from the late 1970s to the present day, the exhibition brings together works by both current students and alumni, including artists well-known in the Latvian art scene, and serves as a meeting place for different generations, viewing the world around them through the present-day eyes. Using a wide variety of media, the artists address the contradictions of current events with sensitivity, inviting discussion about values.
At the exhibition, visitors will be able not only to observe but also to participate. In a special interactive installation - just like in a master’s workshop - everyone will have the opportunity to step into the role of a designer or architect and create their own spatial narrative.
