The Staro Rīga light festival is a multi-day exhibition of urban objects that uses modern light and video technologies to transform Riga's landscape through illumination, at a time when Latvia celebrates its statehood.
This year’s Staro Rīga Light Festival shines under the theme "Messengers of Dawn" — a celebration of new beginnings, transformation, and unyielding hope.
We invite everyone to explore the city and discover the sights, feelings, and actions that signal change and the start of something new. Each of us can be a messenger of dawn — a bearer of light — by transforming ourselves, inspiring others, and helping to create a brighter, more harmonious world around us.
Set out alone, with your family, or with friends, and experience the city’s luminous stories that speak of hope, renewal, and new beginnings.
Seek and discover the light that tells the story of transformation and fresh starts — within each of the festival’s light circles:
- Castle of Light Circle
- Old Town Circle
- Freedom Monument Circle
- City Park Circle
- Brīvības Street Circle
- Miera Street Circle
This year, visitors will be welcomed by more than 40 light installations, each telling a story of dawn, hope, and a new day. The festival route stretches approximately six kilometers, designed for both short and extended walks — perfect for discovering the light artworks all in one evening or across several nights, exploring each circle in your own rhythm.
Alongside the works of talented Latvian light artists, the festival will also feature a diverse range of international installations. Artists from Portugal, North Macedonia, the Netherlands, France, Canada, Germany, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Romania, and Italy will join this year’s event, making up roughly one-third of the total lineup of light artworks.
