The Song and Dance Festival Room pays homage to the creation, development, and continuation of the Latvian tradition of Song and Dance Festivals. Recognised by UNESCO as part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, it’s one of the nation’s most cherished cultural expressions and reflects its strong sense of identity, unity and continuity. The exhibition offers visitors an engaging introduction to this unique phenomenon, combining history, emotion and artistic expression.
The Song Celebration Space is one of the permanent exhibitions of the Latvian National Museum of Literature and Music, welcoming visitors since 2023. Created as an immersive experience, the exhibition offers a unique opportunity to discover the story, traditions and emotions behind Latvia's Song and Dance Celebration – one of the country's most cherished cultural traditions and a UNESCO-recognised cultural heritage.
Each installation invites visitors to engage with a different aspect of the tradition. Explore the history of the celebrations through the River of Time, discover the origins of the movement through the symbolic Līgo Flag, experience the installation The World's Largest Choir, and listen to some of Latvia's most celebrated choral music in dedicated listening chairs.
More than an exhibition, the Song Celebration Space tells the story of Latvia's identity, values and people through music and shared tradition. It offers visitors the chance to experience the spirit and emotion usually felt only during the Song and Dance Celebration itself.
