The Riga Saxophone Quartet has a history spanning 33 years and is one of the musical ensembles that has been active continuously in Latvian chamber music for so many years. The ensemble's repertoire is also stylistically and genre-wise diverse.
The quartet's activities are also vividly characterized by their collaboration with other performers in chamber music. In this concert, at the VEF Culture Palace Chamber Hall, the quartet will perform with the wide-ranging accordionist Artūrs Noviks, who will also play the accordion, a unique instrument rarely heard in Latvia, and the bandoneon, associated with the music of Astor Piazzolla.
The concert program includes works by Kārlis Lācis, Johann Sebastian Bach, Astor Piazzolla, Richard Galliano, Jean-Pierre Solvay, Sylvain Casap, Fernande Dekruka, and Gorka Ermosa.
The concert will feature:
The Riga Saxophone Quartet:
Aigars Raumanis (soprano saxophone)
Rūdolfs Pēteris Rubenis (alto saxophone)
Ainars Šablovskis (tenor saxophone)
Baiba Tilhena (baritone saxophone)
The concert will be hosted by musicologist Ilze Medne, host of the Latvian Radio 3 KLASIKA program.
