Daugavas Rāgas is a unique music project—Latgale folk songs (traditional songs from Upper Daugava) and Indian raga (Hindustani classical raga music) come together in their pure and authentic form, bringing together two different musical cultures.
The event will feature ancient, monophonic songs from southern Latgale. Their style is closer to Lithuanian than Latvian folklore. They are characteristic of the Upper Daugava region - Auleja, Nierza, Izvalta, Andrupene and other populated areas, where 100 years ago Anna Bērzkalne recorded the voices of storytellers on wax cylinders.
The concert features:
Biruta Ozoliņa (vocals), Indriķis Veitners (clarinet), Vigo Račevskis (percussion), Ernests Medenis (kokle), together with the outstanding sitar master from India - Shri Subrata De (vocals, sitar, tampura).
