The exhibition is dedicated to one of the most popular technologies of porcelain decoration and its application in Latvian art and design today.
Every year, the Riga Porcelain Museum organises a thematic exhibition dedicated to an aspect of porcelain art and design. In order to introduce the viewer to the many nuances that characterise porcelain, increased attention has been paid to both the practice of freehand shaping and overglaze painting, and this year it is the turn of one of the most popular decoration techniques - decal. It is basically a "pull-off picture", which allows quick and easy transfer of the design onto the dish and consumer goods. This technology has been used in industry for more than a century, significantly outperforming handwork.
The exhibition hall of the Riga Porcelain Museum features works by fourteen artists and studios. They reveal a spectrum of work that ranges from individual artists and their unique vision embodied in a printed decal to professional studios focused on design development. The museum's ground floor windows showcase porcelain works by fashion designer Elita Patmalniece.
