The exhibition invites visitors to rediscover the artist’s works and explore her multifaceted creative world, in which porcelain becomes a vehicle for stories, symbols, and reflection. Her distinctive artistic style is characterized by her own original decals, gilding, glazing, and a variety of color application techniques.
The exhibition’s title symbolizes an encounter on multiple levels - with the artist’s body of work, with the people who knew and appreciated her, and with works that are being exhibited together for the first time, bringing together pieces from various collections. A special place in the exhibition is reserved for her significant works - The Great Cup (2008) and Maximalism (2016), which vividly reveal the diversity of the artist’s creative thinking and her symbolic language.
Maruta Raude belongs to the generation of Latvian porcelain artists who, following the changes of the 1990s, established porcelain as an independent medium in contemporary art. In her works, traditional porcelain painting has evolved into a personal, symbol-rich visual language in which technical mastery organically blends with a philosophical and poetic worldview. In addition to sculpting and painting porcelain, the artist illustrated books, created installations, and worked in her own unique techniques; however, it was porcelain that became her most significant means of creative expression. This synthesis of technical mastery and a personal artistic language makes Maruta Raude’s body of work a significant part of the history of contemporary Latvian porcelain.
