The exhibition presents textile as a contemporary, interdisciplinary artistic medium whose rich range of metaphors and meanings makes it a powerful means of expressing artists’ personal feelings and perspectives, as well as reflecting the defining characteristics of our time.
Through their works, the participating artists reveal autobiographical experiences, personal reflections, and emotions. They address questions of societal values and pressing issues, explore women's roles and experiences, and respond to geopolitical events around the world.
The exhibition also offers insight into the present-day Textile specialisation at the Art Academy of Latvia, highlighting its dynamism and ongoing development. Marking 65 years since textile education was established at the Academy and the centenary of its founder, Rūdolfs Heimrāts, the exhibition celebrates both the continuity of the Latvian textile art tradition and its capacity to evolve.
