The story concerns the decline and fall of one Tom Rakewell, who deserts Anne Trulove for the delights of London in the company of Nick Shadow, who turns out to be the Devil. The opera that was first performed at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice in 1951, was based loosely on the eight paintings and engravings A Rake’s Progress of the 18th century artist William Hogarth, which Stravinsky had seen in 1947 in a Chicago exhibition. At the Latvian National Opera, this opera will be staged for the first time.

Aleksejs Naumovs solo exhibition - Endless Landscape

With support from the Boris and Ināra Teterev Foundation, an exhibition featuring the most extensive retrospective yet of Aleksejs Naumovs' works. The exhibition will feature the author's early compositions, as well as pieces from private collections which had previously not been presented to the wider audience. The exhibition will serve as a canvas that covers the various stages and artistic directions of Naumovs, allowing the viewer to retrace the qualities that most art lovers are already well aware of. The exhibition will also feature workshops which might be something new for the audience, as they will be able to acquaint themselves first-hand with the artist's virtuoso expressions in other media, such as ceramics, illustrations or prints.

It’s not just audiences that love Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto; violinists enjoy it too. Featuring a solo by Taiwan-born Yu-Chien Tseng, who won the second prize in the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 2015 (the first prize was not awarded). In addition, Shostakovich’s Symphony no. 10: a few months after Stalin’s death in March, 1953, Shostakovich began working on one of his most profound compositions. The entire program is led by maestro Fedoseyev, who is always a welcome guest in Riga.

FIS Baltic Cup 2018 in alpine skiing

The Baltic Cup in alpine skiing is included on the International Ski Federation's (FIS) calendar. The FIS season calendar includes dozens of competitions throughout the world, with over 450 of the world's best skiers competing in them. In 2018, the Baltic Cup will take place in three stages - the first an indoor stage at the Snow Arena track in Lithuania, the second at the City Track in Sigulda, and the third at the Pyha track in Finland.

Tigran Mansurian. Requiem.

The music of Lebanese-born Armenian composer Tigran Mansurian involves modernism and minimalism, and it is equally well known by cinema fans and concert audiences. Mansurian composed few vocal and instrumental compositions, but those that he did present are very vivid and capacious, revealing elements of Armenian national sounds therein. Mansurian's 2011 composition Requiem will be performed by the Latvian Radio Choir and Sinfonietta Riga, and will be conducted by Sigvards Kļava.
