Hemp-seed butter usually is made of sweet-cream butter and hemp seeds that are crushed and added to the butter. The colour of hemp seeds makes the butter creamy green and adds a special bitter-fresh and slightly hazy flavour.

Hemp-seed butter tastes great on rye-bread or in salad. Chefs use this butter to highlight flavour of a dish since hemp-seed butter adds a pleasant accent to products. It is also used as an addition to various traditional Latvian dishes. It must be noted that the hemp-seed butter does not contain THC causing the characteristic narcotic effect of cannabis.

Hemp-seed butter can be bought on the farmers’ and “green” markets, stores selling biological and farm products.

Hemp-seed butter is not only tasty but also healthy. Hemp seeds are good for body detoxication. Hemp seeds contain unsaturated fatty acids and proteins vital for the human body. Our body easily assimilates the hemp proteins as they are similar to proteins contained in human blood. Formerly hemp seeds were used to cure asthma, glaucoma, rheumatism and arthritis, as well as during the fasting because hemp seeds partially replace meet as well as dairy products.
