Public transport in Riga is a reliable and convenient way to explore the city. Riga has three main methods of public transportation - tram, trolleybus, and bus - serving locals and visitors alike across the capital.
Public transport schedules
Public transport in Riga operates daily from 5:30 AM to 11:30 PM, providing reliable and affordable service throughout the city. Night-time public transport
During the summer season, night transport services operate on weekends and public holidays, making late-evening travel more convenient. Three dedicated night bus routes—N1 (Centre–Teika–Jugla–Mežciems), N4 (Centre–Āgenskalns–Zolitūde–Imanta), and N6 (Centre–Purvciems–Pļavnieki–Dārzciems)—depart from the city centre every hour between midnight and 4:00 AM.
Public transport from Riga Airport
Bus route No. 22, which runs between Riga International Airport and the city centre, is the only route where tickets can also be purchased directly from the driver. Payment is accepted by bank card only, and the ticket price is €1.81.
Alternatively, passengers can use other types of Riga public transport tickets, which can be bought in advance at kiosks, ticket machines or through an app.
Public transport tickets
Riga offers a variety of public transport ticket options to suit different travel needs and durations. Whether you're visiting for a day or staying longer, there’s a ticket to match your plans.
Available ticket types:
- A 90-minute ticket – €1.50
Valid for 90 minutes, allowing transfers between any tram, trolleybus, or bus. The ticket must be registered each time you board a new vehicle. The last registration can be made in the 89th minute from the first registration and remains valid until the final stop.
- a 24-hour ticket – €5.00
- a three-day ticket – €8.00
- a five-day ticket – €10.00
- one-month ticket – €30.00
Where to buy tickets
Tickets can be purchased at ticket vending machines, Narvesen kiosks, Rīgas satiksme customer service centres, and via the Rīgas Satiksme or Mobilly mobile apps. Please note that on bus route No. 22, tickets can also be purchased directly from the driver using a bank payment card.
Ticket validation and penalties
All tickets must be registered each time you enter a different public transport vehicle (tram, trolleybus, or bus).
Passengers without a valid ticket are subject to a penalty fare of €15 to €30.
