VEF Jazz Club. New Generation of Jazz

The VEF Palace of Culture and the Jāzeps Vītols Music Academy of Latvia (JVLMA) cooperate in organizing performances by young musicians in a professional environment. The concert sessions feature jazz students playing in the JVLMA Big Band, culminating in a great joint concert at the end of the event.

The JVLMA and Riga Cathedral Choir School Big Band was founded in January 2018 and is led by saxophonist and composer Dāvis Jurka. The Big Band's repertoire covers a wide range of compositions, from jazz classics (Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Don Ellis, Thad Jones, etc.) to various arrangements by contemporary Latvian and foreign composers.
