Trio improv’iste is a Swiss jazz trio that explores the rhythmic possibilities of tap dance as a percussion instrument in jazz. The tap dancer takes on the role of the drummer, as music becomes dance and dance becomes music. Since its first performance in 2006 at the Cully Jazz Festival, this project has never ceased to be enriched by a wide variety of musical traditions and influences. The group’s leader—tap dancer Laurent Bartolotti—is a renowned professional in the dance world and has frequently taught master classes to both dancers and musicians.
