The Tallinn Street Quarter began its transformation around 2018, when a cluster of old, disused buildings - once part of an ambulance depot - was reimagined as a cultural and creative enclave. Spanning sixteen interconnected structures, the quarter has grown into a vibrant corner of Riga, where art, music, and casual social life merge among revitalized industrial exteriors and colourful murals.
Today, it’s not only a space for cultural events and creative studios but also a lively destination for food and nightlife. The quarter hosts a variety of bars and street food spots, making it a favourite hangout for both locals and city guests who want to enjoy an informal, urban atmosphere.
Why visit
The Quarter strikes a unique balance - an industrial setting turned open-air gallery and a popular nightlife spot. It’s a place to discover emerging local creators, take striking urban-style photos against vivid murals, or simply hang out with friends on a relaxed evening. Its welcoming, unconventional vibe makes it a refreshing counterpart to the more tourist-focused spots of central Riga.
Historical highlight
Originally a factory of manual tools, built in the late 19th century, the area became a service garage for ambulance vehicles during Soviet times, and fell into semi-abandonment in the early 21st century. Around 2018, a creative collective began breathing new life into the area, activating it with art installations and gatherings. Since then, it has steadily evolved into one of Riga’s most lively spaces for urban culture and social gathering - a testament to the power of grassroots urban renewal.
How to get there
The Quarter is located at the crossroads of Miera and Tallinas streets, just a 15-minute walk from Riga’s Old Town. It’s also easily accessible by tram No. 11.
