A visit to the Pauls Stradiņš Museum of the History of Medicine is a journey into the history of medicine and the museum - the museum's expositions, descriptions of objects and the interior of the building reflect its various stages and allow the visitor learn about the history of medicine until the middle of the 20th century.

The main exhibition of the museum tells the story of the development of medicine. Visitors can see a medieval monastery hospital and pharmacy, see a model of a medieval town designed by Professor Pauls Stradiņš himself, and learn about the most common diseases and their treatment at the time.

The professionalization and scientific breakthroughs of medicine in the 19th century are illustrated by a variety of instruments and apparatus as well as personalities. The museum is particularly proud of its collection of objects by microbiologist and Nobel Prize winner Ilya Mechnikov. But not only humans play a role in the development of science – animals do as well. One of the most impressive exhibits of the museum is the result of the transplantation experiment of the Soviet doctor Demikhov - the "two-headed dog".

The museum also hosts the unique Cosmic Biology and Medicine exhibit, which explores human experiences in space.

The Pauls Stradiņš Museum of the History of Medicine first opened its doors to visitors in 1961 and is now one of the most popular museums in Latvia. Every year, thematic exhibitions and events are organized on socially interesting and relevant topics.

Originating from the personal collection of Latvian surgeon and researcher Pauls Stradiņš in the 1930s, the museum officially opened its doors in 1961.

The museum is located at Ukrainas neatkarības iela 1, just a short walk from key landmarks such as Kronvalda Park and Riga’s Old Town. It is easily accessible by bus or trolleybus, with several public transport routes connecting directly from the city centre.
