Esplanāde is one of Riga’s most central and well-loved parks - a spacious green retreat surrounded by busy boulevards and cultural institutions. Covering 8.75 hectares, the park is bordered by Elizabetes, Kalpaka, Krišjāņa Valdemāra, and Brīvības streets. Within its grounds you’ll find monuments dedicated to military commander Oskars Kalpaks and national poet Rainis, and several landmarks are situated on the edges of the park, namely the Nativity of Christ Orthodox Cathedral, the Latvian National Museum of Art, and the Art Academy of Latvia.
