Getting from Riga Airport to the Old Town
Riga’s Old Town is the most popular destination for visitors, and the journey from the airport typically takes 15 to 40 minutes, depending on your chosen transport. Below is a breakdown of the main options and what to expect from each.
Public Transport
Public transport is one of the most affordable and convenient ways to travel between Riga Airport and the city centre. During the day, bus No. 22 connects the airport with central Riga, with the journey typically taking around 40 minutes, depending on traffic. Convenient stops include “Grēcinieku iela", located right next to the Old Town and “Autoosta”, next to Riga International Bus Station and within walking distance of Riga Central Railway Station. When going from the city centre to the airport, look for the stops “Centrālā Stacija” or "13. janvāra iela" instead of “Autoosta”, both of which are located nearby.
Travelling late at night is also possible. The N22 night bus provides an hourly connection between Riga Airport and the city centre after the regular No. 22 service ends. From the airport, N22 departs at 00:30, 01:30, 02:30, 03:30 and 04:30, while buses from the city centre leave the “Stacijas laukums” stop on Marijas iela at 00:00, 01:00, 02:00, 03:00 and 04:00. The night bus generally follows the same route as bus No. 22, making it a useful option for passengers arriving on late-night flights or heading to the airport early in the morning.
A ticket costs €1.81 when purchased from the driver, or €1.50 if bought in advance. You can buy the ticket from one of the Narvesen stores or ticket machines found in the airport or through the Mobilly app. This is an excellent low-cost option for daytime travellers or those staying near Old Town or the central stations.
Taxis
Taxis provide the quickest and most comfortable trip into the city. A ride from the airport to the city centre takes 15–25 minutes, depending on traffic, and costs around €10–25. You can choose a licensed airport taxi like Red Cab, or book through popular ride-hailing apps such as Bolt or Forus. This is a great option for late arrivals, travellers with luggage, or those who prefer a direct door-to-door transfer.
Car-Sharing
Car-sharing services offegr a flexible alternative for independent travellers. Cars can be picked up directly at the airport parking area and returned anywhere within the designated city zone. This works well if you want to explore Riga at your own pace or plan to visit multiple neighbourhoods beyond Old Town.
